Hi guys. I recently bought a zn 1300 voyager. I am trying to sort out the handling though. i found that when i am travelling at about 120km/h going into a left turn the bike has a lot of movement on rear end. seems to be much beter in right turns. has anyone have some advice on where to start looking for the problem? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

check your swing arm bearings for looseness, put her on the centre stand and see if you can move the rear suspension sideways, perhaps one bearing is loose or worn, or check your sidewall on the tyre, maybe a bubble or bulge or uneven wear ???, just a thought

Hello Mike:

First do the basics to troubleshoot chassis issues. You may have done this already but check the following.

1: Tire pressures/ condition, are they wearing more on one side?
2: suspension serviced properly, air preload/ and oil level?
3: Is the ZN's air compressor working as it should, starting and stopping, not running excessively, indicating a leak somewhere??
4: Is the head pipe (Triple clamp) bearings tight or notched?
5: When you grab the front end, is there any play in the front bearings?
6: Like kza states, is there any side to side, excessive up or down play in the swing-arm?
7: while the front tire is removed, do both fork tubes move the same, with no undue noises or binding? If you have to keep looking, you may have to do this with the air and oil removed. May be a good time to change the front fork oil???

Regards.

Thanks for the replies. Have gone through the list mentioned guys. I replaced worn fork bushes, seals and oil. I also added some valve springs in forks to tighten up front end. Was suggested by someone here in SA. I replaced tree bushes. Adjusted swingarm play. I am now busy with rear shocks. You will find new post. On the tire side I found that the front tire is the correct size according to the manual but the rear has a much wider tire than specified. Previous owner put a 160 on the standard rim. Could this also have an effect or do I run at higher pressure?
