I think someone looked into making a steel one in the past, but the issues were that the other metal gear that drives it was not made to mesh with another metal gear (could cause fragmentation or seize) & it would be noisy, as nylon gears run very quietly to reduce engine noise.

Be interesting to know if it can be done though ??

The reason the Z/KZ1300 A1 & A2 nylon gear is different is due to the fact that it also drives the Ignition Pick-ups behind the cylinders only fitted these 2 models.

The A3 model & others onwards do not have the Ignition Pick ups behind the cylinders as they are on the end of the crank, so have a different gear.

I fell into that trap many years ago !!!

All fuel injection models are the same as the A3 / A4 / A5.

Hi tackelhappy, the ebay link is not showing up. Do you have the listing number by any chance? I searched this morning but did not find a plastic bevel gear, only one metal one.

Its got one inside & is up for offers.

Awesome - however that is an A1 or A2 I think. But - it also has the metal gear, so presumeably it would work if I replace both the plastic gear AND the metal gear? If so, this is a win.
