Thanks everyone for the responses. I really appreciate it. Rick the razor blade tip worked! Cover is off...its all over but the screamin now . Time to get a battery, some filters and take a look at the wiring. Will keep you posted. Thanks again!

wow, what a cool bike! I replaced the external shifter and I'm working thru the wiring. I did finally have the chance to take it out for a spin...albeit a slightly illegal spin(when i went to NJDMV to title and register it I was informed there is a lein on the title). what da hell man?
I really dig this bike-its gonna be fun. wowee man its heavy
