OK, I know it must be in here somewhere, but my search skills are failing me.

Is there a write up on the process for installing an APE manual cam tensioner on the forums/faq's?
I've searched for a hour or so, but haven't found any info specific to installing the APE (or any manual tensioner).

I've found some info where they recommend installing, tightening the bolt till you feel tension, then backing off 1/4 turn. Then others have mentioned rocking the crank back and forth a little after this and then re-adjusting to ensure the slack is properly taken up.

Would appreciate either a link or any tips to this install as the last thing I want to do is cock it up and lunch a valve.
Cheers!

Never turn the crank backwards without the tensioner in or locked in place as this will put slack chain on the wrong side of the crank and increase the chance of the chain jumping a tooth on the crank or cam putting the timing out.

turn the engine forward just to take up the slack and then remove the old tensioner and replace with the new one.
apply just a light amount of force ( same as the old spring version) then lock it in place. rotate the engine forward again and check for any play.
repeat as necessary..
hope this helps

If you hear a whining sound while its running you are too tight. You'll wear out the cam chain gear in a hurry if its too tight.

Ok. So just turn it forwards to take up slack, whip the old one out, new one in, tighten up with light tension.
If i then rotate the motor forward whilst holding finger tight pressure on the adjuster I should be able to feel any slackness and take it up yeah?

Sorry for the dumb questions, just dont want to cock things up.
Cheers.

I ended up removing the cam cover having decided that on our motor the cam cover does not actually function as a tensioner it self. With the cam cover removed I ended up choosing to take several turns beyond the adjustment I had decided upon using the finger tight method.
It's been working fine for me for several years now.
