I've seen a few people post about getting bikes going, or back to life, just thought i'd mention that the screen before the oil pump is a "must check and clean" item, infact it is recommended by people smarter than me, which is just about everyone, that it should be cleaned once a year, people don't do it because of the hassle of pulling off the exhaust and the sump, just thought i'd mention it, cheers Pete.
after tuesday even the calendar goes WTF

Don't under credit yourself Pete. I've come to highly respect your opinion on this site. You're absolutely right on checking the screen if you're a "new owner" of one of these rides. Those that have checked the screen have found all kinds of crap blocking the screen. The screen is there to protect the oil pump from large pieces of debris. After the pump, the oil goes through the oil filter to clean the oil to protect the rest of the engine. A screen full of debris will starve the pump and result in low oil pressure.

Yeh undo the screws and the screen is inside between the pickup and the pump body, no biggie but a basic thing that should be checked now and again, sort of the first line of defence to get rid of "chunky bits" from the oil :-)
This is my screen after the end of my secondary shaft chewed the case and bearings out, bike still ran, thank goodness those "chunky bits" didn't block the oil passages or destroy the oil pump

Didn't find any stripped threads just a slightly elongated hole where the bearings were, they fell out and the shaft chewed into the case, bike was running but at idle oil pressure light came on, slight "tinkle" noise from around the clutch area, bearings rubbing on clutch basket, didn't think it was bad till I found the other "chunky" bits when I drained the oil, thank goodness for a spare motor, used the cases and the secondary shaft. Live and learn.
