I need piston rings and I heard from the shop that did my work that KZ650 piston rings might work?

Same bore size for sure. I've read that the pistons are nearly identical. Slight difference in crown shape. I would imagine that the ring thickness would be the same. You'll want to verify that the upper ring has a chromium face, the second ring should be cast iron. Definitely worth sticking your neck out and buying a set.

I think the KZ650 rings are a bit wider than stock rings. They can work, but the piston will need to be milled to accept them.

Stock piston rings are still available from Kawasaki. A bit pricey at about $50 a set, but you can still get them pretty easy.

Pulled this info from the www.KZ650info.com site

"The stock 650 rings have thicknesses as follows : 1.2mm (top) 1.2mm (2nd) 2.5mm (oil)"
