Are you talking about the 4 bolts that connect the drive shaft to the engine? If so, they normal threads, but loc-tighted on from the factory. I ended up using my normal ratchet wrench with a 4-foot pole to give me the leverage to break them loose.

The one in the middle of the Output shaft? Normal thread, by the looks of it. Official procedure (out of the manual) is to take out the whole assembly (it's only a few inches long), hold it using a vice and a special adapter that bolts on to the four output shaft bolts, and lever it off with a long-handled wrench/ratchet.

To get the entire assembly out, though, you have to split the cases. What are you trying to do (for curious)?

Have you tried to pull the plate back a bit and then wrap a couple of turns fo string aor twine around the outside of the 4 bolts andthen tighten the plate back up (this has worked for me on a couple of 5 ton truck diff's when I was in a pinch and rush equip not making money if in shop said the boss to the guy trying to =keep things going) Long time ago in a shop far far away...
