The 1300 A1 and A2 IC Igniter Unit is a very hardy solid state unit which takes quite a lot to damage.

If you are still running a Ballast Resistor it is more likely that would blow first and stop any spark.

If you are lucky it wont have damaged the IC unit............but do the AW82 coil conversion ASAP and get rid of it altogether if you can.

I did that conversion many years ago because I was working for Honda Australia and found some "spare coils" in a bin and used them. It's been good eversince.

Type AW82 into the search box and all will be revealed.

Aha. So no ballist resistor required for the AW82's. What about the plug caps? Do you use the same spark plug caps with the screw-in resistors?

I started this thread because I bought new coils on eBay which I installed and worked well. At least just tooling around town they worked fine. When I went on a long ride at 130-140 kph though it started to pop and backfire a bit when decelerating. It then became unreliable at idle with sooty black plugs #3&4. It was shortly thereafter that the bike quit altogether and failed to start at all. There was no spark at all. That's why I'm thinking I fried the igniter because of these f-ing eBay coils that they said were bolt-on with no mods. I hope I didn't influence anyone else to buy the coils if they're crap.
