Hi,
I'm in the last phase of my rebuild. Now I'm working on the electrical system. I removed the instrument cluster and found one wire disconnected from the back of the tachometer. In the shop manual the part to which it was soldered is called "distance sensor". What is this and what is it for? Since the part itself is glued into the backplate of the instrument cluster there is no way to replace it. If I can't repair it, what function will be missing?
Thanks
Karl

I think this was to do with the indicator self cancelling circuit that turns the indicator off after a certain distance.

The sensor gives pulses to the self-cancelling unit located below the battery tray. Once the bike has traveled far enough, the unit actuates the solenoid located inside the left side switch cluster, returning the indicator slide to center position.

Ok,
I understand. I'll try to solder the loose wire back on.
Thanks

I've had about 3 of the self cancelling modules fail on me. I've given up on them now.

There was a circuit design somewhere for a DIY version
