The first time it happened it blew the rear brake light and signal fuse and main fuse. The next two times it only blew the main fuse. I had to put in a 35 amp fuse to get home as I had several stop signs to stop at on the way home.

hope i am not bothering you, just questions i have to zero in on your problem, if you stay with me on this I will find out what is causing your problem. first is the battery secure in its mounting? second after you put in the 35 amp fuse did it not blow when you were down shifting? and what year and model is your bikke so I know I m looking at the wright wiring diagram.

also be carful on putting in bigger fuses than spec because than can lead to a wiring harness fire..
the fuse is there for a reason and by it blowing it is telling you there is a problem.. so get yourself a bunch of 30 amp fuses cause we are going to blow a few more before we find the problem ..

thanks again for your patience.

The 35 amp didn't blow at all. The battery is secure. My bike is a 1980 Touring B2.

Just my two cents worth here however instead of using fuses you may want to try using a circuit breaker for shorting circuits I always used a cb of a amp rating that would allow testing and if it blew hopefully won't burn the wires (maybe warm them up a bit hahaha can also help finding the weak spot if you do feel a warm spot in wire) if its a dead short I always started with a 3 amp cb on alligator clips across the fuse connects.

this has helped find many a bad wire for me, as always be careful.

Or if you have available try using a "Power Probe III"

This is another method I sometimes use for circuit load testing

you hook this up across the fuse terminals in place of the fuse and will show the load and its protected by a 30 amp

Hope this helps I think I got this a couple of years ago from Princess Auto or Harbour Freight not sure which.

Good info. The main fuse has not blown since i put a 35 amp fuse in. I'm wondering if the high out put stator has anything to do with it.
