Although I covered this trick previously and having converted my '80 air-screws years ago, it was a "no-brainer" that the '79 rebuild would get the same treatment so here are the basic details. The advantages are obvious.

Hi Scotch, is there a standard setting (turns out) for these screws ? also by screwing in, will this richen or weaken the mixture ?
I've still got standard screws, how the hell do you get to the 3rd screw from the left hand side !
Just to understand, this only deals with the primary circuit ? or will it have effects on other throttle openings.

The generally accepted setting for the Pilot-Screws" is 3 - 3.5 turns out.  IN leans the fuel/air mixture - OUT richens.  This setting will also influence the "Transition" ports (3).

 The advantage of the socket-head conversion will become obvious the first time you need to make an adjustment - especially on the Center Carb !  Magnetizing  the Ball-End driver will keep the Pilot-Screw on the driver.  Care should be taken as the "attraction" is minimal and a "bump" will knock it off and you don't want to drop the Pilot-needle because the odds of it landing on the Tip and ruining it are ......pretty good !
