The weather in Scotland was reasonably mild for the time of year so I took the big old Z out for a spin. I gave her a wash and a polish so she’s looking pretty good for a 36 year old.
I’m intending to paint her back to the original luminous starlight blue when I have some spare cash. I temporarily painted it black with rattle cans because the old paint was really bad. The guy I bought her from claimed the mileage is genuine, I’ve had the Speedo out and there is no sign of it being tampered with, but I wouldn’t bet too much on it.
The bike has been in a bad crash at some time in its life, so bad in fact that I rebuilt her on another frame, which I had sandblasted then powder coated. The bent frame might explain the low mileage.
I’ve been working on her for about a year now and I still have a bit to go, the good news is she’s running pretty good apart from being a bit Smokey on start-up.
I would like to thank the experts on this forum, because I would never have got her running without your help and advice. It was a nightmare, with glued in mixture screws on the carbs and seemingly endless electrical problems.
