I put new gaskets in not long ago (aluminum) and I re-tightened all nuts yesterday hoping it might have been the problem but alas, no!

What about the Kleen ports? Do you have that system (IE: are you in the US?). Maybe that's playing up? Worth looking at before you start digging deeper.

After bringing the bike up to maximum operating temperature I measured the temp/heat on all exhausts just behind the radiator and 5 of them were in the 90-100 degrees Celsius region and 1 was 60-70 degrees, which is number 4. I then did a compression test with the engine hot and here are the results

No. 1 - 140psi
No. 2 - 150psi
No. 3 - 140psi
No. 4 - 150psi - (Yes that is correct)
No. 5 - 150psi
No. 6 - 150psi

No. 4 is where the noise is coming from, if I was to guess, around the shim and bucket area.

I will be removing the valve cover today I just hate removing those infernal ignition coils (me and them don't get along at all)

Maybe it has spat out the shim?

Hopefully it hasn't done too much damage if that is the case.....

I knew it!! Shims are all in place. Cam chain looks fine and the sprocket has plenty of depth on the teeth, some slight wear from the chain is all. It does seem a little tight though and remember I am quite the novice so I don't really have a clue. The location of the noise doesn't match with the cam chain either.

The diagnosis seems to point one way and then the other. Just once I would like to get one of the easy ones

PS. Will post video later on with valve cover off.
