Toss the fuses that come with this and buy some good quality ones at your auto-parts store ! !!

The over charging would suggest the regulator is shot !

Princess Auto sells this type of fuse holder.

There's certainly all sorts of shapes, sizes and configurations available. Best to FIRST determine how many circuits do you want? Then: where the fuse block can be located and how it can be secured? All the while keeping in mind the orientation (direction and position) of the terminals on the fuse block itself and the possibility that some of the leads may require lengthening to reach the new location.
And of course: Has to be easily accessible.
Under the right side cover was the obvious choice for myself.
