A balanced work attitude. Nice. Some for the house, some for the shop and some for the bike. I on the other hand used to get beat silly by the old man for playing on stuff before the work got done and I guess it carried forward. I can't even look at the bike knowing that the house needs to get done first. Then the workshop before I even think about pulling the bike out to work on. And the old man's long gone (20 years ago) It's a curse @!#$@!#$

Okay, coffee break is over.Back to work.
Later Dudes.

Further to kawboys input (Now at the top of my Christmas gift list !).....
Using the Tool is the best assurance the carbs are clean !
If "the problem" persists I've found two other details that will likely be the cause (as described)
Remove the pilot needles and keep them in the correct relative order. If you know or suspect which cyl.(s) are giving you the issue, keeping them relative for this inspection will help confirm your suspicions. One at a time, roll them across a perfectly smooth surface and check the needle- tip for straightness. The slightest eccentricity - it's useless and needs replacing. Trying to straiten an eccentric tip is a waste of time !
Remove and inspect under some magnification each of the pilot jets. Both ends ! Anything other then a shiny surface at the inlet/outlet and the actual metering bore.....replace them ! The respective articles are in here....somewhere. I've learned (since the '79 Carb rebuild) that trying to clean them can exacerbate an already existing "flow" issue.
There's some very good pricing on complete rebuild kits and the value per the above mentioned is priceless.

Your bike looks good and largely original. Is it a very early serial number?

Thanks. It's not particularly early, no. About a mid-range 1980 (with a build date of November 27, 1979). It was fairly intact when I bought it, save for the full Vetter package, but thankfully it was the one that re-used the stock blinkers and headlight. I got real lucky with headlight ears and assorted front end bits (trim rings, horn cover, etc.), and was able to pick up the other hard to find parts here and there. As far as I can tell, it's all THERE now (lifting handle and helmet lock included), and the only deviations from a stock 1980 A2 are the position of the fuel cutoff solenoid (non-functional, but in the early, possibly pre-production location screwed to the access plate on the left side, under the intakes) and a 120mph speedometer I SOMEHOW managed to get my hands on.

Cosmetically, it's about an 8. Good paint, but some scratches and dents here and there. The Polish Air Force emblem (yay for heritage) covers a hole in the sidecover the PO drilled for a 3-position switch, one I'm still not 100% sure what the function was. The engine was repainted when I had it out to rebuild it, and a local powdercoater finished a few of the black parts. It really is a beautiful bike.

As for the carb issue, I would LOVE if that were my problem, but I'm not sure. All the jets in that passage are new, and both that carb body AND the replacement one I tried as well were ultrasonically cleaned, with no much apparent difference. I can spray carb cleaner through the transition ports on each carb, and the flow appears to be identical across all 6. I did have to replace the piston and sleeve on cylinder 3 due to engine damage from before I bought the bike, but everything seems to check out (compression, valve clearances, etc.). I'm still futzing with stuff, so who knows.
